The drought

2018-07-23

the summer of 2018 - the bedst summe some have said

but I do not think so, actually a very worrying summer and as the headline of this Danish article says: 2018 - The most drought-stricken year in Denmark in 99 years, which cannot be described in positive terms if you ask me.

Next headline - The 2018 drought clearly surpasses all previous drought years

Earlier in this summer, I actually did noticed that everything was not its usual green and juicy state, when other-wise very hardy local wild species began to hang a lot (as houseplants you forgot to water) and even wither, and not least out of season.

I even began to find dead birds, more than the normal number, or expected number - saying something out of the ordinary, well what I was thinking at the time. But maybe just the way I think and when otherwise hardy wild species get in trouble, I get very worried - only this time I do not think I was the only one.

The grass was more or less gone and the trees began to lose their leaves, as if it were autumn -  next headline says: The drought has put the trees on alert

And one more headline from this summer: Nature guide: That's why trees shed their leaves as if it were autumn

"survival strategy"

Survival strategy as such is not a positively charged word, it is about a need when in distress - a contingency plan only and not a picture of an extremely good summer. In retrospect, in my view - 2018 drought, 2020 pandemic and 2022 Ukraine, the future just seems more bleak, than it ever did.
