Railway bridge closed: New problems with the bridge flap

2016-09-06

Beginning of September 2016

The newspaper article says

It closed after a big ship sailed into the bridge, so no one could sail through the fjord for several weeks. The current in the fjord, which can be extremely strong, tore a barge off course so it hit the bridge. At first it looked like there was only minor damage to the bridge, but they later had to close it and examine it more closely.

There is a reason why many locals do not swim in the fjord and have a lot of respect for it. Seemingly quiet, apart from being about 800 meters or so from bank to bank, it looks friendly enough, but it is insidious and should not be bypassed carelessly. One of the things I don't like when bathing in it is, the upper parts of the water can be quite warm and nice on half of the body, while the rest is very cold, so it almost shocks the body - so I never bathe in it. Over the years quite a few people have been picked up from the fjord, in great difficulty or even died in the fjord.

Article from 2012 says it has happned quite a few times in its life time.

The railway bridge will be closed until the end of October https://www.tv2nord.dk/aalborg/jernbanebroen-lukkes-indtil-sidst-i-oktober

The article says that the bridge will be closed so that ships cannot pass for the next 1½ months

The picture shows how I found out something was wrong when the canal was suddenly full of sailboats - cause it didn't used to be that way, it is hardly ever used.
